THE Ipoh Central Market is set to be the first in the country to use “robot” workers.
Ipoh City Council engineering assistant director Arif Mohd Zainudin said three robots would be used to carry out various tasks.
“The robots will clean the floor, lift items and pick up rubbish while the third, which is actually a vehicle, will be used to carry items.
“We are testing these robots for a few days and they will be fully operational on Dec 15, ” he told reporters when met at the poultry section of the market.
Arif said the robotic technology was a collaboration between the city council, Housing and Local Government Ministry, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) and the Malaysian Technology Development Cooperation.
“The technology is being funded by Mosti under its National Technology and Innovation Sandbox programme.
“The programme helped us develop the automation for the project.
“We are optimistic that with the use of this technology, we can manage the market better, ” said Arif.
