We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the development, maintenance and execution of our well established programs in the areas of Health and Safety.
As a Health & Safety Officer, reporting directly to the Human Resources/Health and Safety Manager, you will work with the organizational leaders to manage our internal Safety programs according to established policies and guidelines, business practices and our principles to create a positive work environment while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Create and execute a comprehensive Safety operation plan that minimizes organizational risk and maximizes business performance;
Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements related to COVID-19
Provide interpretation of Employee Relations and Safety policies, practices and procedures to management
Keep well-informed of provincial Occupational Safety laws in order to be viewed as a trusted advisor to management, and ensure compliance with those laws
Manage STD and LTD, and WSIB claims in a confidential manner and work with managers on Return to Work programs where applicable
Responsible for preparation and delivery of New Hire on-boarding and Safety orientations
Act as the main Health and Safety resource across locations (including job-sites). Implement required education and training initiatives
Establish and maintain a good working relationship with the Ministry of Labour, and Ministry of Transportation
Oversee and manage Safety Program, internally and externally
Conduct safety audits, prepares reports and makes recommendations to management
Conduct Health and Safety meetings and provide training to team members
Monitor workplaces and report on and/or provide recommendations regarding issues of non-compliance and potential risks
Investigate incidents and accidents, providing necessary documentation and corrective actions, including training
Desired Skills and Experience:
In-depth knowledge of all current relevant labor and employment laws accompanied by the drive to keep up-to-date and understand future legislation;
Certified JHSC member – preferred
Vast knowledge of the OHSA, including in-depth understanding of COVID-19 related regulations
Knowledge and previous experience with Employee Health Safety, including knowledge of applicable laws and regulations;
Experience in Retail, Building Supply, or Construction Safety is preferred
Ability to exhibit confidentiality, integrity and approachability
Ability to multi-task and prioritize and work successfully independently and as part of a team
Superior customer service skills
High proficiency in data entry with keen attention to detail
