The coronavirus pandemic has slowed hiring, but it hasn’t ended it. Some employers now are scrambling to add staff around the Phoenix metro area.
In addition to Amazon.com hiring at a technology hub in Tempe and other sites around the Valley, here are some other recent hiring announcements:
Supermarket staff wanted
Albertsons and Safeway stores across Arizona will host a hiring fair Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hiring managers will be onsite at all stores, and prospective applicants are encouraged to bring a current resume. The supermarket chains are looking to fill cashier and courtesy-clerk openings as well as those in deli, meat, bakery, produce and other departments. Both chains are part of Albertsons Cos.
Benefits include employee discounts at Albertsons and Safeway, flexible scheduling, paid vacations and holidays and more. Albertsons and Safeway also are hiring for full- and part-time delivery drivers.
Applicants may apply at local Albertsons and Safeway locations or online at careersatsafeway.com or albertsonscompanies.com.
Mortgage employees needed
AmeriSave Mortgage Corp. said it plans to hire 500 people in the Phoenix metro area, as low interest rates spur home purchases and refinancing activity.
The privately held company plans to fill positions including loan officers, mortgage underwriters, loan processors and mortgage specialists, as well as those in technology and customer service. AmeriSave expects to hire around 2,000 people nationally over the rest of the year.
AmeriSave’s employees are working remotely now, but many will return to offices once the coronavirus pandemic eases. The company has an office at 8701 E. Hartford Dr. in Scottsdale and another at 2222 E Yeager Dr. in Chandler.
Atlanta-based AmeriSave describes itself as the nation’s third-largest privately-owned direct mortgage lender. For more information on job openings, go to www.amerisave.com/careers.
Pharmacy techs sought
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and with flu season approaching, CVS Health is looking to fill roughly 300 Arizona jobs in coming months. The new positions are for part-time and full-time licensed pharmacy technicians. Most are seasonal but some could develop into permanent employment.
Technicians work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to process prescriptions, dispense medications, interact with customers and more. Many also administer COVID-19 tests.
Successful applicants must have obtained, at the least, a technician in training license. This certification is valid for up to three years, by which time trainees are required to pass an exam administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
