Images and videos can help increase awareness of climate issues but featuring polar bears in every other piece may not be an effective way to engage your readers.

Gavin Lamb, a researcher and writer in environmental communication has outlined eight evidence-based principles to guide journalists in making better visual choices. 

Lamb’s advice ranges from making sure to include practical guidance alongside emotive images to avoiding protest imagery due to cynicism.
