True Sky Credit Union uses technology to keep members safe

It may seem like something out of a science fiction movie, but one local credit union is bringing it to reality.

True Sky Credit Union, originally founded in 1946 by eight FAA employees, has introduced a number of high-tech cleaning solutions to their nine branch locations around the Oklahoma City metro. These products are part of the credit union’s overall response to COVID-19, a plan that has also included more than 24,000 calls to members and millions of dollars in loans to local small businesses and residents.

When you enter a True Sky branch, you’ll be greeted by a “thermal mirror” — a freestanding camera and display that reads an individual’s core body temperature in less than two seconds. The display provides audible feedback for temperatures that are considered “normal” or “high” — allowing employees, members, and visitors to take the appropriate precautions in the case of an unexpected fever.

In addition to the thermal mirrors, True Sky has also installed self-cleaning, nanotechnology-based surfaces on door handles, touch screens and shared counter surfaces. These “nano-septic” surfaces are powered by microscopic crystals that immediately oxidize any organic material that comes into contact with them. The oxidization process allows that material — skin, bacteria or virus droplets — to be immediately destroyed and released back into the lobby as carbon dioxide. Each covering can continue working for at least 90 days, at which point they will be replaced by brand-new versions.

And once the True Sky lobbies are closed for the evening, large ultraviolet lights will bathe exposed surfaces overnight. These lamps provide an additional layer of coverage for high-touch areas and are so powerful that no employees or members are permitted in the building while they operate.

“Our primary concern is for the safety and health of our employees, our members, and the communities we serve,” said Sean Cahill, president and CEO of True Sky. “Investing in technology to complement the extra cleaning and safety precautions we have in place seems like a natural next step in creating the safest possible environment in each of our branches. We are all adjusting to this new normal together, and our goal of being a technology company with purpose means leveraging that technology to help all of us.”

In addition to cleaning technology within branch lobbies, True Sky has also introduced the concept of Lobbyless Banking to the Oklahoma City metro.

This range of solutions, which includes digital banking through online and mobile applications, expanded drive-thru services, telephone and video support, and even curbside services, has allowed members to manage their accounts, take advantage of low loan rates, and even refer new members to the organization from the comfort of their homes and vehicles.
